Why We Created This Plugin

We originally developed Smart Link from TajNews for our personal needs, aiming to simplify link shortening via a dedicated YOURLS setup. However, due to high demand and the prohibitive cost of many commercial solutions, we decided to make our plugin publicly available at no cost. By default, it can work in automatic mode using our own server, seamlessly generating short URLs for each published post.

Key Features & Functionality

  1. Automatic Link Generation
    • Every time you publish or update a post, the plugin connects to our YOURLS server (unless you specify your own) and creates a short link.
    • This short link is then displayed at the end of your post, inside a custom meta box in the WordPress editor, and can also be output via a shortcode

  2. Use Your Own YOURLS Domain
    • If you prefer controlling the entire process, simply provide your own YOURLS domain and secret signature key in the plugin settings.
    • Once configured, the plugin will connect to your YOURLS instance instead of ours to generate short URLs.
  3. Easy Setup
    • No complicated instructions—just install the plugin, activate it, and (optionally) add your YOURLS domain and signature key if you want to override our default server.
    • For a custom YOURLS setup, you’ll need a domain configured for YOURLS (e.g., https://short.example.com) and a signature key available in your YOURLS admin panel.
  4. Copy Functionality
    • Users can quickly copy the short link from the meta box in the post editor or from the link displayed at the end of each published article. One click copies the link to the clipboard—simple and efficient.

    • We continuously improve and update Smart Link from TajNews to ensure compatibility with the latest WordPress versions.

Getting Your Own YOURLS Domain & Key

  1. Install YOURLS
    • Set up YOURLS on your hosting (subdomain or directory).
  2. Obtain Your Signature Key
    • In the YOURLS admin area (Tools/Manage), locate your unique signature token (API key).
  3. Enter Settings in the Plugin
    • Go to “SmartLink Plugin” under Settings in WordPress, enter your domain (https://short.example.com without trailing slash) and signature key.
  4. Save & Publish
    • Upon publishing your next post, the plugin will generate short links using your own YOURLS server.

  • Any included libraries or resources are also GPL or GPL-compatible.
